If I had a dollar for every billboard, flyer, or advertisement I saw for a Bridal Show, I could probably retire. These things are about as abundant in the state as new babies are. The only thing more rampant is newly engaged, fresh-faced brides-to-be who are busily planning their wedding to the stud on campus. So, here are a myriad of the resources available to all you Utah future brides:
-BrideAccess.com
-UtahWeddings.com
-Utah Wedding Photographer
-The Knot (for Utah)
-Salt Lake Bride

This doesn’t really have anything to do with Utah, but I thought it would be fun to share. We all need a little pick-me-up to help us get through the week, right?
I found a website where people have taken pictures of funny, passive aggressive notes and signs. Have a look-see. It is pretty funny.
Here is one, for example:

After a huge weekend for the Mountain West Conference, here are my top college football picks (including a few local faves) to break into a BCS bowl game.
Brigham Young (holla!)
With a 3-0 record, the Cougars have an impressive winning streak at 13, the longest in the nation. While they can’t afford a loss, BYU did beat two Pac-10 teams and completely obliterated UCLA in a stunning 59-0 win.
Utah (any fans?)
Also 3-0, Utah is benefiting from Arizona State’s loss to UNLV; however, the Utes will have to beat BYU (and vice versa) in order to advance to a BCS bowl. The annual game between the two rivals is undoubtedly one of the biggest games of the season for both teams.
East Carolina
Ok, so they’re not part of the Mountain West, but Conference USA’s ECU will likely get a profile boost since they beat Virginia Tech and West Virginia when both teams were ranked and both have the potential to be in the rankings at the end of the season. Their out-of-conference schedule has been strong thus far.

If you have ever looked into attending Film School, you know how expensive it can be–especially at a well-known school in L.A. or New York. Well, a new film school is opening in Utah for those who want to study film making, but can’t quite afford it. Emerson Smith College is opening a new branch of the school in Springville. Emerson Smith opens on October 1st and offers full-ride scholarships for second year students if they do well during their first year. A year’s tuition at this Liberal Art’s school is a little less than $9,500. If you have always wanted to study film making, now is your chance.

Consupo.com is the latest web 2.0 company that delves into the vast world of consumer reviews and customer ratings and whaddaya know, a few locals have been featured…but not necessarily in a good way. For example, Gold’s Gym had a “case” brought against them and has a puny score of only 153. In fact, in response to the case against Gold’s, one user wrote “Steroids must be decreasing the memory cells over there.” Harsh. Yet other businesses are flying high on Consupo, such as Thai Ruby, a hole-in-the-wall favorite of the BYU crowd in south Provo that received a glowing review. Have a beef or prop you want to raise with a Utah company or business? Head over to Consupo and voice your opinion!

Ever heard of Mozy, Inc.? Perhaps you’ve seen their new billboards along I-15…the “technology company with more cowbell.” Well the American Fork-based internet backup company was acquired by EMC last year and EMC has recently partnered with Lenovo, the world’s fourth-largest computer manufacturer to provide an unlimited online backup service for small business professionals. The service, available on all Lenovo ThinkPad SL series notebooks, is powered by…you guessed it, Mozy. Props to our fellow Utahns for landing such a big, high-profile account!

So Curt Bramble, the Majority Leader of the Utah Senate, ordered a pizza from a local pizza joint and didn’t understand their policy on not taking personal checks - no big deal, right?
Well, it wouldn’t have been if Curt hadn’t been so difficult about it, flaunted his title and money (he’s a public servant - what a waste) and happened to have flipped out on a pizza delivery girl who blogs.
Read her account of the story - I guarantee it will make you not want to vote for this guy.

That’s the rumor I read on Venturebeat this morning.
Seems ridiculous - I agree with the theory that some LDS people are probably buying employee shares (which the company is currently allowing them to sale). Possibly the LDS church themselves is buying these shares, but that seems more unlikely to me. If so, though, props to them…

For many people, their wedding is one of the major highlights of their lives. But apparently marriage isn’t just a human event anymore. Many animals are now taking the plunge…thanks to Pet Weds. Cats can marry dogs, goats can marry fish. It doesn’t matter the match up to Reverend Tyker (a little dog that wears a suit), he is just happy to officiate at such an auspicious occasion. Reverend Tyker’s credentials are on the site for your viewing pleasure.

The Reverend himself.
Here’s a nice little snippet from the website: “WED THAT BULL TO THE WHOLE HERD! MAKE AND [sic] HONEST MAN OUT OF YOUR RAM IF THEY’VE BRED……GET THEM WED! STAMP OUT ILLEGITIMATE CRITTER LITTERS!” When your pets marry, you even get an “official” marriage certificate…because just going through the ceremony isn’t weird enough.
But Pet Weds refuses to marry humans to animals…good call. So, luckily they cater to the eccentric rather than the perverted.

No doubt you’ve heard in the past about airplanes and passengers being grounded for hours due to wiring problems. Or perhaps you’ve actually had the misfortune of being one of those passengers. LiveWire Test Labs, a Utah based company, may have found more efficient ways to inspect the wiring of airplanes, especially aging ones. Researchers have been developing a device that would detect intermittent faults in aircraft wiring. The device would warn in advance of changes that need to be made during routine maintenance checks.
It may sound like nothing extraordinary initially but their advanced research would enable more effective detection of wiring in need of repair or replacement without the inconvenient and costly down time - a major plus for passengers.
